Spelling errors in an autocorrect world

Spelling bee champions have it easy. They just need to spell one word right and they are deemed correct. They can even ask somebody else to use their word in a sentence and know absolutely nothing about grammar or punctuation themselves. When it comes to posting content online, spelling and grammar is important, but it is not the end of the world to spell something wrong. It’s almost expected now that we live in an autocorrect world where an app decides if we really meant something else. The good thing about bad spelling When you see something mis-spelled on a…

Comparison on Content Quality

This is a science driven comparison between our very own content that we produce and everybody else’s work.  As you can clearly see by this scientific chart, driftpoint media does produce superior advertising and media content. THE TRUTH Our friend Tom, at Tango Charlie Apparel posted up a similar comparison chart for his products. This totally turned into a “Well if Tom can do it, I can do it” project shortly after that.

Do Something

Last year I heard the best quote come out of a friend.  There was a group of us were filling up concrete anchors for a water ski course and the oldest guy in the group is moving faster than everybody else to get them done. His push to finish the work was such a sight that the rest of us paused for a second to watch him hustling. He of course notices our lack of movement, spins around completely and says “Do something, even if it’s wrong” While his inspirational statement came from a long lost trait called “work ethic”,…

Elevator Pitch

An elevator pitch, elevator speech, or elevator statement is a short summary used to quickly and simply define a person, profession, product, service, organization or event and its value proposition. – source wikipedia You are supposed to perfect your elevator speech to cover a few minutes of a random encounter in an elevator.  While the opening to our Elevator Speech is a little short, in 30 seconds it not only gains awareness of what we do, but puts it into a scope that everybody seems to relate to. Social Media Image Sizing Guide [INFOGRAPHIC]

Maintaining a social media presence can be overwhelming, especially when every outlet has a different layout, a different audience and different image dimensions. To make every post as impactful as possible, it’s important that the adorable kitten you posted to Facebook doesn’t have his head cut off in the thumbnail or that the special offer you’re tweeting to customers doesn’t have the Special Offer text cropped out. Make the most of all your social media platforms by posting correctly sized images to your LinkedIn header, your Google + profile and your Pinterest feed. When customers land on your YouTube profile, make sure they see everything you…

Are the Yellow Pages Dead?

It is our favorite question to ask people trying to understand what we do here at Driftpoint Media. “When was the last time you opened the Yellow Pages?” In our experience most people touch their Yellow Pages once a year to recycle them when the new book arrives. Many people have abandoned their home phone and do not get any Yellow Pages. Every once in a while I find somebody who has looked at one, just to see if their own company was listed properly. Is there ANY value to being listed in the Yellow Pages? Sure.  It is a powerful…

60 seconds on the Internet

So much happens online every second of every day, that it can be hard to visualize.  Just to give you a glimpse of how much happens online take a quick visit to Internet Live Stats. It’s one of our favorite sites for remembering that life moves pretty fast online. Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. – Ferris Buehler

Disconnect to Reconnect 2014

Embedded in our company culture is the concept of mandatory escapes from work. It has been a busy year at Driftpoint Media. When things are at the peak of getting busier it is a good time to pause, step back and come back at where things are going with a clear head.  At least it sounds a lot nicer to say it like that while sitting along side a lake instead of behind a computer screen. Driftpoint Media disconnected last week to spend some time in our favorite region of this country, the Adirondacks.  It was the perfect change to put some clarity on…

US Government vs Service Level Agreements

The government coming back “online” this week had me thinking of how little emphasis there is on defining the US Government as a critical resource compared to our demand for technology services. Before you think I am going to get all political, I am not. I am actually looking at the percentage of time the government shutdown compared to the standards we use to rate value of online service delivery. When we shop around for services we look at the percentage of availability of that service. Services can be anything from Internet web hosting to phone service who all seem…

How to Embed Google+ in WordPress

You can now embed Google+ into posts and websites, including WordPress.  It is really easy to add to your WordPress site as there are really only two steps here.  The key being that you need to add the javascript to your header, so that when you put the embed code in your post, it knows what to do with it. Edit your header and before the close of the </head> tag you want to add… <script type=”text/javascript” src=”https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js”></script> Then when you go to your Google+ post you can choose embed from the drop down menu and it will feed you…
